Bio

Hi. My name is Jeewantha Bandara (If you want the full monty, it’s Rathnayaka Mudiyanselage Wajra Jeewantha Bandara. Quite a handful, I must say). I’m currently a 4th year PhD candidate at Rutgers University. My research interests are in marine biogeography and fisheries management under the larger topic of climate change. I’m supervised by John Wiedenmann and Malin Pinsky.

I’m originally from Sri Lanka and completed my undergraduate degree in Zoology at the University of Colombo. I worked in sustainable fisheries in my homeland for three years where I was a part of a team that helped establish the first certified sustainable crab fishery in South Asia. I then came to the United States for my graduate studies under a Fulbright Scholarship.

My interests outside of academia include reading about ancient history, diving into 70s and 80s cinema, and going on hikes with my wife and son. I also find any excuse to overcomplicate the art of making coffee by getting into shenanigans with different brewing methods.

You can check out my publications on Google Scholar and code on Github. I’m interested in future postdoctoral opportunities or any collaboration you may have in mind. Cheers!
